Police swoop on Narborough Road after man seen wielding sword and machete

Police swooped on Narborough Road last night following reports of a man wielding a machete in public.

The incident occurred near Imperial Avenue at around 7.20pm. A man was stopped and searched by Police who found a sword and machete on him.

Witnesses say a scuffle broke out between the man and Police, which ended with the man being pinned to the ground by officers.

Neighbours report seeing a number of police cars move in, as more officers arrived to the area to provide support.

A 20-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken away. He is expected to be charged with possession of an offensive weapon

Residents describe a flurry of activity as Police tried to control the situation, resulting in the man being surrounded on the ground by officers and lots of ‘flashing police sirens’ in the residential street.

This latest event follows a number of other incidents earlier in the year in the area and some residents expressed concern that crime was getting worse in the area.

The man is expected to appear in court in the coming week.
