A mobile testing centre has been set up at Spinney Hill Park, following the recent rise in coronavirus cases in the city
Anyone with symptoms of the virus is encouraged to go to the centre, without the need to book an appointment.
The test centre is open from today and is accessible from the St Saviours Road entrance of the park during the hours of 10:30am to 4pm for the next five days.
The latest figures from Public Health England show there were 2,494 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Leicester since the start of the epidemic. Of these, 658 cases were reported in the last two weeks.
In a letter to residents, city mayor Sir Peter Soulsby, said: “As you will have seen, there has been some concern about the upturn in Covid-19 cases in Leicester.”
“So far this appears to be based on a limited number of tests and a comparatively small increase in positive results.”
“I’m pleased to confirm that government has agreed to set up a mobile testing facility at Spinney Hill Park and wanted to let you know that it will be there from today.”
The mayor added that the testing centre could be extended for longer than five days if necessary.
