Paper lorry catches fire on M1 closing two lanes

A lorry fire on the M1 closed two lanes of the motorway this morning.

The incident happened on the M1 northbound between junction 20 and 21. The lorry contained large paper rolls. The Highways Agency and Fire service are at the scene dealing with the fire.

Leicestershire Police Tweeted: “Fire on M1 Northbound Carriageway between Junctions 20 & 21. Please be aware of delays in the area & try to find an alternative route if possible.”

The fire closed two lanes of the M1 this morning

They added: “Recovery continues at the fire on the M1 in Leicestershire. Each 1 tonne bale of paper is being removed and taken away so we can extinguish the fire away from the M1 to allow lanes to reopen.”
