British Transport Police have confirmed a person has died after being hit by a train in Sileby.
The incident caused long delays and disruptions to commuters this morning, with trains temporarily suspended between Leicester and Loughborough.
British Transport Police responded to the call along with the emergency services just before 8am this morning.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Sileby station shortly after 7.45am today, after reports of a casualty on the tracks.”
“Sadly the person was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.”
“Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.”
The station was cordoned off as officers carried out an investigation at the scene. The line has since reopened.
British Transport Police confirmed the incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
