A busy Leicester road was closed this afternoon after a suspected stolen car collided into another vehicle.
Moments before the crash, Leicestershire Police were given authority to pursue one of the vehicles involved in the crash after it was spotted in the area.
The stolen car crashed into a Volvo in Victoria Road East, at the junction with Gipsy Lane, at about 12.30pm this afternoon.
Police have confirmed three people from the Volvo have been taken to hospital but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Officers say the driver failed to stop for them when it was flagged and instead drove away. A helicopter was also used in the search for the stolen vehicle.
An investigation into the circumstances is now under way.
A 20-year-old man from Leicester has been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and remains in police custody.
Victoria Road East was closed to allow the emergency services to deal with the incident. The road was later reopened at around 3pm.
