Police gatecrash party in lockdown zone of Leicester

Police gatecrashed a house party being held in the lockdown zone of the city over the weekend.

A van full of officers wearing PPE equipment broke up the party in South Wigston on Saturday night (4 July).

Whilst lockdown restrictions have been eased in some parts of the city from Saturday, they remain in place in Leicester and some of the surrounding areas.

Blaby Police posted a message shortly before the raid saying: “Heading over to South Wigston to break up a house party, trying to keep ourselves safe whilst dealing with others who may not be following the rules.”

Officers had to deal with a number of incidents over the weekend, including fights, dispersing groups and a pub was even closed following an assault.

Incidents were reported in a number of areas including Glenfield, Braunstone, Groby, Ratby, Hinckley, Burbage, Earl Shilton, Kirby Muxloe, Narborough and Enderby.

One person was also arrested on suspicion of drink driving after he was spotted driving a vehicle dangerously.

One of the officers involved said: “Disappointing at some incidents tonight where by Covid regulations were being breached and persons then hanging around in large groups after the pubs had closed.”

“Some decided to give officers verbal, but they were eventually dispersed after some clear advice and options.”

“I can honestly say this has been a challenging shift for all officers on duty tonight and us all working extra hours.”

“I am proud to say that I work with a great team of officers who have all worked extremely hard this evening with a demanding workload.”
