Police have named the driver of a BMW who died following a fatal collision with a fire engine over the weekend.
James Sarson, 26, from Nuneaton, was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary where he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
The emergency services were called at about 5am on Sunday 22 October, on the A563 Lubbesthorpe Way, near Fosse Park. The silver BMW and a fire engine had collided on the southbound carriageway.
A passenger in the BMW, a 26-year-old man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire for treatment. He remains in hospital.
No one else was injured in the collision.
It has emerged the fire engine was not responding to an emergency call at the time of the incident.
Mr Sarson’s family have asked for their privacy to be respected at this most difficult time.
A Leciestershire Police spokesman said: “Leicestershire Police would like to speak to anyone who was driving in the area and saw the collision itself or either of the vehicles being driven beforehand.”
