Police close road after luxury Porsche catches fire in Leicester

A Porsche car was destroyed in a fire near Red Hill Circle in Leicester yesterday.

Leicestershire Fire & Rescue were called out to the blaze on Abbey Lane at around 5.55pm yesterday evening (Saturday 11 May).

The Black Porsche Cayenne, worth over £50,000, was heavily burnt out just before the roundabout.

Heavy traffic on Abbey Lane due to the fire

The incident caused heavy traffic on approach to the fire. There were no reported injuries.

Abbey Lane between Thurcaston Road and Red Hill circle was closed while emergency services dealt with the fire.

It’s believed a mechanical fault on the car was the cause of the fire, however investigations are ongoing.

A traffic light was also damaged in the incident.

Leicestershire Police liaised with the owner of the car to arrange recovery.
