Sainsbury’s has confirmed that staff at two of its stores in Leicester have tested positive for Covid-19.
The company announced yesterday that three staff members who work at the Melton Road store tested positive for the virus. They were sent home as soon as they showed symptoms and the store has undergone a deep clean.
The supermarket also confirmed today that staff at a second store have now tested positive for the virus.
It said seven staff members at it’s Humberstone Gate store in the city centre have tested positive.
The company said that some staff members had already returned to work following Government guidelines, whilst some were still self-isolating.
Leicester has been under significant focus since a rise in cases was highlighted by the Health Secretary, Matt Hancock.
Figures from Public Health England revealed that out of the 2,494 confirmed cases in Leicester reported at 16 June, 658 of these had been reported in the previous two weeks.
And while some of the increase could be down to the wider availability of testing, Leicester’s public health team has been focusing on understanding the cause of this upward trend.
