Three more schools in Leicester close after positive coronavirus cases

Three more schools in Leicester have closed after staff members tested positive for Covid-19.

The three schools are Whitehall Primary School in Rowlatts Hill, Moat Community College in Highfields and Herrick Primary School in Rushey Mead.

The decision to close the schools was taken by the head teachers and governors to protect pupils and staff, and to allow a deep clean of the building.

The news comes after Humberstone Infants and Humberstone Junior school in Leicester also closed due to positive Covid cases amongst its staff.

Leicester city council has confirmed the school closures, but said that only a small number of schools were affected and the vast majority of schools in the city remained open.

The council said some of the closed schools have gone further than the required guidelines and did not have to close the whole school. They are just being as cautious as possible.
