Leicestershire could see some early snow this weekend as a blast of cold weather sweeps across the UK.
The Met Office is predicting some snow to hit the county on Saturday (15 December) with temperatures as low -5C.
The outlook for the weekend according to the Met Office is as follows: “Friday cold with sunny spells and perhaps some coastal showers. Saturday starting frosty, then wind and rain spreading east, with some snow, especially on hills.”
The drop in temperature is part of a cold snap forecast to freeze Britain, as frigid air from Siberia engulfs the nation.
Bookmakers Ladbrokes has slashed odds on this winter being the coldest on record. The bookmaker is offering odds of 4/6 that this winter goes on to be the coldest ever.
For those dreaming of a white Christmas, the last official one was recorded in 2010, according to the Met Office. This saw widespread snow in Northern Ireland, Scotland, parts of Wales, the Midlands, the North East and South West.
Forecasters can only accurately predict what the weather will be like on Christmas Day up to five days beforehand.
