Homes evacuated in Belgrave after car crashes into house and ruptures gas pipe

A number of homes have been evacuated this evening after a stolen car collided into a property in the Belgrave area of Leicester.

Police were called to Buller Road at about 3pm today following a report that a car had collided into a house.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue have also been in attendance due to a suspected gas pipe rupture.

The area was cordoned off while engineers from gas firm Cadent were called in to deal with the rupture.

Over 25 properties have been evacuated for safety reasons while investigations continue. No injuries have been reported.

Police have confirmed a 21-year-old man from Leicester has been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and dangerous driving. He currently remains in police custody.

Emergency services remain at the scene and enquiries are ongoing.
