Breaking news: Police corden off streets in Leicester after suspicious package found

Police have cordoned off an area in the Northfields parts of Leicester, following a report of a suspicious package found in a vehicle.

Officers are currently at the scene carrying out enquiries.

Police were alerted to Huntingdon Road, at 8.34am this morning (Monday 4 June) and the area around the vehicle has been cordoned while officers carry out their investigations.

In the interests of public safety, Hampden Road at the junction with Edgehill Road, Huntingdon Road at the junction with Gypsy Lane and Fairfax Road have been closed off.

The Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit (EOD) are also at the scene.

Police have not evacuated residents from their homes at this stage, however, motorists are being advised to avoid the area and find an alternative route.
