A suspicious item found in a parked vehicle on Huntingdon Road in Leicester today has now been removed from the scene.
The package was found in a red Peugeot in the Northfields area of city early this morning.
Huntingdon Road and other adjacent streets, which had been cordoned off, will shortly be reopened to pedestrians and motorists.
Residents who lived within 50m of the car were evacuated earlier today. These residents will now be able to return home.
Earlier this afternoon, technicians from the Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit (EOD) were seen examining the item.
A 26-year-old local has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody, where he is being questioned by officers.
A spokesperson said: “We fully appreciate the significant inconvenience today’s events have caused for local residents and to local passing traffic, and the upset and anxiety this may have caused.”
