Identity of 19-year-old killed in Leicestershire crash released

Leicestershire Police have released the identity of a woman who died in a road traffic collision in Stoney Stanton earlier this week.

19-year-old Leah Ryan was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Monday 7 January.

Her blue Fiat car was in collision with a white Citroen Van, just after midday on Station Road, between Stoney Stanton and Elmesthrope.

The driver of the van was taken to Coventry Hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Station Road was closed to motorists immediately after the accident and reopened some time later.

However, following concerns relating to the condition of the road, Highways Agency closed the road off to motorists once again.

Officers from Highway Agency cleared out the muddy stretch of road where the crash occurred. However, no suggestions have been made that this was in relation to the accident or the condition of the road.

The road was later reopened to motorists.

Police continue to appeal for witnesses to the crash to come forward with information.

Detective Constable Beth Pick from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We would like to speak to anyone who was in the area and assisted at the scene.”

“If you saw either of the vehicles being driven beforehand or the collision itself or have any dashcam that captured the incident we’d like to hear from you.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 266 of 7 January.
