Things to do in Leicester this half-term

There’s lots going on in Leicester during the half-term break – with plenty of family-friendly activities on offer that are completely free of charge.

Here’s a list of free and low-cost activities in Leicester this week:

All week (until Sunday 23 February):

  • Nature Week at the Farm – Gorse Hill City Farm: 10.30am-3.30pm. Small charge for activities. Café on site. Tel: 0116 253 7582
  • Mission Mars at the National Space Centre: 10am-5pm. Please note: charges apply.
  • Dressing for childhood: Free exhibition at New Walk Museum (until 26 February)

Monday 17th February

  • Free adventure playground sessions at nine sites around the city
  • Magic Models: Newarke Houses Museum: 11am-3pm. £3 charge.
    Create a model to take home with you. Age 5+. Tel: 0116 225 4980
  • Messy Play: New Parks Children, Young People and Family Centre, but 10am–12 noon
  • Comedy Festival Joke Spot: Belgrave Library: 12.30pm-2pm. Take to the stage and tell us your joke – or enjoy our stories that will make you chuckle!

Tuesday 18 February

  • Free adventure playground sessions at nine sites around the city. 
  • Messy Play: Braunstone Children, Young People and Family Centre
    10am-12 noon
  • Leicester Museums’ Pop-Up Museum: Highcross: 10am-3pm. Find us on the first floor, close to Debenhams (in the former Thomas Cook store)
  • School holiday event at Abbey Pumping Station. 11am-3.30pm
    Railway and café will be open. Small charge for train rides. Tel: 0116 299 5111

Wednesday 19th February

  • Free adventure playground sessions at nine sites around the city. 
  • Leicester Museums’ Pop-Up Museum: Highcross: 10am-3pm. Find us on the first floor, close to Debenhams (in the former Thomas Cook store)
  • Chuckle Time for Families: Beaumont Leys Library: 2pm-3.30pm. Free storytelling and craft activities.

Thursday 20th February

  • Free adventure playground sessions at nine sites around the city. 
  • New Parks Children, Young People and Family Centre
    • Babies Learning Together: 9.30am-11am
    • Stay and Play: 1pm-2.45pm
  • Leicester Museums’ Pop-Up Museum: Highcross: 10am-3pm. Find us on the first floor, close to Debenhams (in the former Thomas Cook store)
  • Frosty Fun at The Guildhall. 11am-3pm. Make your own sparkly snowflakes and lots more. £3 charge. Tel: 0116 253 2569
  • Chuckle Time for Families: Rushey Mead Library. 2pm-3.30pm Storytelling, crafts and fun activities.
  • Wild Things: Highcross Leicester: 12noon-5pm. See the amazingly realistic animals tour – get ready to go ape with the gorillas, high-five an orangutan and marvel at Zelva, the giant tortoise.

Friday 21st February

  • Free adventure playground sessions at nine sites around the city. 
  • The Grove grand opening: Braunstone Grove: 1pm-4pm
    Come down and see all that’s on offer at the brand new Grove facility. With free activities on the day, including zorb football, dance and inflatable fun.
  • Leicester Museums’ Pop-Up Museum: Highcross: 10am-3pm. Find us on the first floor, close to Debenhams (in the former Thomas Cook store)
  • Braunstone Children, Young People and Family Centre:
    • Stay and Play
      9.30am-11.15am
    • Babies Learning Together
      1pm-2:30pm
  • Fairy Tale Fun Day: Haymarket shopping centre:11am-3pm. Meet the Snow Princesses, Sir Frederick the Knight, and Tarragon the Dragon.
