Road cordoned off after two men attacked in Evington

Police have released further details after an assault on two men in the Evington area of the city last night.

Police are appealing for witnesses after two men were attacked in Cromer Street, off Evington Road, yesterday evening (Wednesday 25 July).

Officers received a call at around 11.15pm from East Midlands Ambulance Service reporting that they were treating a man found unconscious in the street.

Police believe the 50-year-old injured man was assaulted by two men. The victim’s brother intervened and he was also assaulted. He sustained minor injuries.

The main victim sustained serious injuries, not believed to be life threatening. He was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, where he remains in a stable condition.

The suspects were both wearing jeans and dark hooded tops. One of them ran away after he was challenged. The second was wearing a black baseball cap.

A police cordon remains in the area of Cromer Street at the junction with Evington Road to allow officers to carry out forensic enquiries.

Detectives would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or the events leading up to it. Any one with information is asked to contact DC Nick Lant on 101.
