Leicestershire Police take uninsured pregnant driver to hospital after her waters break

A police officer, who stopped an uninsured pregnant driver, had to take her to hospital after her waters broke.

The officer had stopped the woman yesterday morning after the car was picked up by the automatic number plate recognition system for being uninsured.

The woman pulled up in her Citroen car and told officers her waters had broken and she was driving herself to hospital.

Given the circumstances the police decided to drive the lady to the hospital in her car. After dropping her, the officer seized her vehicle and reported her for the driving offence.

Police confirmed the car had been driven around since March without insurance.

A spokesman for the force said: “The car was stopped after it triggered the automatic number plate recognition system for being uninsured.”

“It has since been returned to the woman’s home and is set to be insured.”

They added, while they did not know if the woman had her baby, they “hope all is well.”
