Award-winning Vegan chef from Leicester passes away

An award-winning vegan chef from Leicester has sadly died just months after opening her restaurant in Oadby.

The sudden death of 37-year-old head chef and founder of Sanctua restaurant on London Road, Bindu Patel, was announced on social media.

The statement read: “It is with great sadness that we inform you that Sanctua will no longer be opening.”

“Please all say a prayer for Chef Bee, who sadly passed away on 24 January 2020.”

The vegan restaurant was opened by the Law graduate in April last year. Her ingredients were all plant based with produce sourced from local suppliers.

Ms Patel had previously worked at Michelin-star restaurants, including Gymkhana and Trishna in Mayfair, London.

Sanctua was named Best Vegan Restaurant in the Midlands at the Asian Restaurant Awards in June last year.

Ms Patel was also a regular guest on the BBC Radio Leicester Curry Show.

The cause Ms Patel’s death has not been revealed.
