Woman cyclist injured after hit and run in Leicester city centre

A woman cyclist has suffered serious injuries after she was hit by a car in Leicester city centre.

Police are looking for the driver who failed to stop at the scene.

The incident happened on Burleys Way, during the early hours of Sunday 17 March.

Officers said the 22-year-old woman was cycling on a crossing at around 1:20am when she was involved in the collision.

The car which hit the cyclist is described as a white Mercedes convertible, with a black roof.

The woman suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary.

Police are continuing with their enquiries and are keen to speak to anyone who may recognise the Mercedes car from the footage.

Police Constable Richard Smith said: “The cyclist suffered serious injuries following the collision and is continuing in her recovery. It is extremely fortunate that her injuries were not far worse.”
