A young woman was touched inappropriately and pushed into a canal by a stranger as she walked on a towpath in Leicester.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened in broad day light, to come forward with information.
The victim who is in her twenties was walking along the towpath in St Augustine Road shortly after 4pm yesterday afternoon.
She was approached by a man who touched her inappropriately. A struggle then ensued and the man pushed the woman into the canal before running off.
Detective Constable Dan Thorpe, said: “This happened shortly after 4pm – there are likely to have been a number of people using the canal towpath.”
“Were you in the area at the time? Did you see what happened or did you notice anyone acting in a manner that seemed unusual or aroused suspicion? If you have any information at all about the incident, then I would like to speak to you.”
Inspector Rob Randell, commander for the West Leicester NPA, added: “To offer reassurance, extra patrols are being carried out in the area along the canal towpath”.
