A woman has died after a fatal road traffic collision on the A46, which closed the busy dual carriageway for over 10 hours last night.

Police have released more details this afternoon on the incident.

Officers attended the scene just after 8.30pm on Tuesday (6 November) following reports a pedestrian had been in collision with a white Ford Ranger. The incident took place on the eastbound carriageway between the Wanlip and Beaumont Leys junctions.

The pedestrian, believed to be a woman in her forties, was pronounced dead at the scene. No further details about the victim have been released.

Police say the driver and passenger in the Ford were not injured.

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses to the accident to come forward. DC John Borlase said: “I am appealing for anyone who may have seen the woman beforehand or the collision itself to please contact me.”

“Alternatively motorists who may have dash cam footage which could assist our investigation, I would urge them to give me a call.”
