A murder investigation has been launched after a woman has died in a house in the Belgrave area of the city.
Earlier today, Police had cordoned of Moore’s Road at the junction of Harrison Road and Melton Road.
Officers have confirmed a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of the woman this afternoon.
Police were called to Moores Road by East Midlands Ambulance Service at 12.39pm today, following a report that a woman had been seriously injured in the property.
Shortly after, the woman, who was in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene and a murder investigation was launched.
A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He currently remains in police custody and is being questioned.
A cordon still remains in place whilst forensic team carry out their investigation.
Detective Inspector Mark Sinski said: “Our investigation is very much in the early stages and officers are currently in the area carrying out full enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the incident.”
“We have arrested a man on suspicion of murder and he currently remains in police custody.”
“A young woman has lost her life and I am appealing to anyone who has any information about this incident to make contact with us immediately.”
“Were you in the area of Moores Road at around lunchtime today? Did you see anyone acting in an unusual way in the area? Did you hear anything which caused you concern? If you have any information at all which you think could help our enquiries, I urge you to make contact.”
“If you have any CCTV or dashcam footage from the area today, I also urge you to check this and to get in touch.”
