Woman sexually assaulted in Leicester city centre

Police have released an image of a man they would like to trace after a woman was sexually assaulted in Leicester city centre.

Officers said this was a serious assault on a woman and would like the public to come forward with information.

The attack happened on the night of Tuesday 10 March, when the woman who is in her twenties met with a man in the De Montfort Street area, where a short time later she was subjected to a serious sexual assault.

Detective Inspector Gareth Goddard, who is overseeing the investigation, is appealing for help to identify the man pictured as he may have valuable information about the incident.

He said: “I understand that hearing that this happened may cause some concern amongst the wider public and those that may live in and visit the area but at this time we are treating this as an isolated incident.”

“A number of significant enquiries have been ongoing since police received this report to identify and locate the person responsible for this assault which has understandably left the woman extremely upset.”

“She continues to be spoken to and supported by specialist officers as our investigation progresses.”

“These enquiries have allowed us to identify this man that we would like to speak to as part of our investigation and I would like to ask you to look closely at this image. Do you know this man? Does he look familiar? Could it be someone you know? It’s important we identify him and I would urge the public to get in touch with any information you may have.”
