A road in Evington has been closed this morning after a woman was hit by a van.
The collision happened at around 4.15am this morning on Coleman Road, outside the Goodwood Ambulance Station.
Emergency services attended the scene including Leicestershire Fire and Rescue, as the woman was reported to be trapped under the van.
A spokesman for the fire service said: “When we arrived there was a female casualty trapped under a van. We used hydraulic lifting equipment to lift the van off the casualty.”
The woman has been taken to hospital and her injuries have been described as ‘serious’.
A 62-year-old man from Leicester has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Police have closed off Coleman Road between Avonside Drive and Barnes Heath Road.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the area, to allow emergency services to carry out an investigation of the scene.
